About Us

Sew-works Sewing Machine Centre opened their doors on the 3rd July 2011 in Tolworth/Ewell, specializing in sales, services and repairs of domestic sewing machines, overlockers and embroidery machines.

The owners Brett & Claudette Banfield had previously owned a Bernina dealership in the Durban Musgrave area of KwaZulu Natal, South Africa for 15 years.

Brett started working for Bernina - Pietemaritzburg, as a sewing machine engineer/technician. He completed a 3-year apprenticeship and then traveled around the UK and Europe for 1 year. Once back in South Africa he applied for a Bernina Dealership in Durban and started out on his own in 1995.

Sew-works have built up a successful business, built around giving professional, reliable and efficient customer service. Today’s top of the range products and models are state of the art machinery and require a fully trained and certified engineer/technician to carry out their maintenance and service. Brett is very proud of the fact that he has completed all the technical training on the Bernina product range, up to and including all current models in the market place and can assure you of receiving quality workmanship.

Claudette Claudette joined Brett’s business in 2006 and helps run the shop on a daily basis. She is an extremely pleasant and capable sales consultant, who is responsible for doing the sales demonstrations, lessons and internet enquiries for sales, spares etc.

Sew-works has a showroom and workshop all on one site, which is ideal for viewing and trying out new products. They accept part exchange (trade-ins) when buying new products. Orders for machines and spares are welcome via telephone, post and email, or why not visit the shop in person, we would love to meet you.
